5 Things you should not do with manual transmission in your car

In spite of the fact that the manual transmission is in retreat, a large part of the self-propelled park is and will remain with manual transmission. It is traditional and low cost, but: do we really know operate well on a vehicle with a manual transmission?

The following are 5 points of customs that we have when driving in manual transmission and that we must not do:

manual transmission

Driving resting their foot on the clutch pedal
The manual clutch works by mechanical friction, when the pedal is not pressed, a disk is strongly pressed against a metal plate; rest your foot on the pedal makes that little weight will remove pressure on the disc, enough to “make it skate” and that its surface burn, drastically reducing its useful life. It is usually an expensive component to replace.

Keep your hand on the gearshift
Yes, it is a mistake. Apart from that the hands must be on the steering wheel, keep your hand on the lever, detracts from free play to the lever, which is connected by rods to system changes, changes per share of torque and motor movement, transmit motion to the lever and if we do not allow this to move freely, be unnecessarily pressing the internal parts of the box. Let’s put it easier, we are only causing wear on parts that perhaps never should be changed.

Wait a traffic light with the driven clutch
The clutch should only be in short actions, the push, and release and hold down the shortest possible time. Drive it consistently could burn the disc or significantly reduce the life of the press which maintains the driven disc.

Lower slope braking
The engine is designed to push and hold the car, so many times we only release the accelerator pedal to reduce or maintain this speed. A slope requires much brake, causing a temperature that reduces its efficiency and could cause failures that will lead us to a replacement very early. Like the clutch, the brakes must be short-acting, so we promote proper cooling.

To raise a slope playing with the clutch
When exiting a subway or to find us in areas with uphill slope, if for some reason we were detained, we start the car with the driven parking brake (handbrake). Many cars have assistance of output slope that help you make the car more easily. If the car started moving backwards, we only provoke excessive wear on the clutch. Some people keep the car without stopping and “playing” with the clutch, very serious error, the disk will fail long before they need to be replaced with normal use.

Remember all these tips, this way you stretch the life of quite expensive parts to replace in your car.
